How Avendi pricing works

Maker-first economics, no tourist markup

Where your dollar goes on every Avendi order

The two questions travelers ask us most: am I paying a tourist markup, and is the maker actually getting paid fairly? The short answer is no markup, and yes — the maker receives the full local list price. This page shows the full flow.

The four-step price flow

1

You see: USD price equal to the maker’s local list price

Every product is charged in USD. The USD figure is the maker’s local list price — the rate a resident pays at the workshop — converted via a third-party FX provider and rounded up to the nearest whole dollar (max rounding under USD 1 per item). No tourist markup is added at the local-currency layer.

2

You see: transparent delivery fee

Insured local courier from workshop to hotel front desk, travel-safe packaging, same-day operations. Shown in USD at checkout before you commit.

3

Maker receives: full local list price

The artisan is paid in their local currency at the full local list price. We do not discount the maker’s take to fund Avendi.

4

Avendi earns: vendor-side commission + delivery margin + small FX rounding

A platform commission charged to the vendor (negotiated upfront, transparent on the vendor agreement), the operations margin on the delivery fee, and the cents-level rounding from converting local-currency prices to whole-USD amounts. Never an upcharge on the maker’s product price.

Avendi vs typical tourist channels

Indicative ranges for the same authentic, locally-made souvenir across channels. Numbers vary by city and product category — these are typical observations from our launch cities.

Why we refuse to discount the maker

Avendi Local exists because tourist channels have squeezed local makers for decades. If we underpaid them, we would just be the next link in that chain. Our commission is paid by the vendor — but it is set so that the maker’s net proceeds on an Avendi order are equal to or better than their own walk-in retail. We bring volume, basket size, and reliable payouts; in exchange we earn the commission. The traveler’s product price is the maker’s full price.
